OMAHA(KPTM)-When you think of Labor Day fun, what comes to mind? A campground? A lake? What about a mall? For some, enjoying the great outdoors includes a sale rack.
Many are ending the dog days of summer by seeking savings. Mackenzie and Maggie Hagemeisder hit two malls on Monday, hoping to snatch up end of season bargains. "We came and went to Oakview and now we're here at Village Pointe," said Maggie who added that between the two of them, she and her sister spent a couple hundred dollars on things like shoes and accessories.
Tim Gustafson of Holdrege and his dog Oreo also spent some of the day at Village Pointe. "My wife brought me here to shop , so we are just kind of wandering around, seeing the sights while she hits the stores," said Gustafson.
Among the day's attractions, a free concert for mall-goers. Impromptu maestro Laura Green took advantage of an outdoor piano, available for whomever wanted to take a turn tinkling the ivories. "I've been looking for one of these pianos for a while once I heard they had them around," said Green who added "I love playing, so it's just a bonus that other people get to hear me, I guess."
It actually makes sense that many spent the Labor Day holiday at the mall, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics retail salespeople earned the top spot as the largest occupation in 2012.
