OMAHA (KPTM) - Business owners near 144th and Maple Streets are hoping police catch a thief soon.

Several burglaries happened overnight Sunday in that area with many of the owners reporting cash missing from their registers and computers gone.

"Definitely not good, especially since we've only been open for a week," said Vanella Wrye.

Wrye, who owns Brazilian Wax, told Fox 42 News the person or persons responsible smashed open her front door with rocks, left markings behind and stole about $200 from her cash register.

"We really see West Omaha as being a safe part of town, so my family and I were really surprised when this happened," said Wrye.

Her front door is now fixed, but her peace of mind is another story.

"We know there are a lot of desperate people out there who don't want to work as hard for their money as we do."

Fortunately, the owners of Brazilian Wax do have insurance, so that will help pay for at least some of the damages.
