OMAHA (KPTM)- It's easy to love our four legged friends but you may not love the little messes they leave behind. One apartment complex is cracking down on dog messes and the owners that aren't picking up after their pups.
Midtown Crossing is turning to DNA testing to keep Turner Park clean The park is dog friendly. There are trash cans and doggie bags scattered throughout the park.
"Can't be walking around and having your children play down there if there are things from animals that are left there. So, it's very important to keep it as clean as possible," Bobbie Newland said. Newland is in favor of the DNA testing.
Over the next year-people who live at Midtown Crossing Apartments will have to have their dogs swabbed. Their DNA will be recorded.
"They're very dog friendly here. I'd hate to see that go away," said Newland.
"It's really clean over here. I haven't seen any problems," Darren Keen said. Keen walks his dog through Turner Park.
"It's nature. Dogs are pooping in grass. It's not the same as a dog pooping in your living room or something like that," said Keen.
Apartment managers said the rule will stick around. Dog owners will be fined if they leave their dog's mess behind. They will be charged for the cost of the DNA test. Since Turner Park is a public park some people could leave messes behind without being held accountable.
