OMAHA(KPTM) - Obamacare is officially open for business. Starting today, uninsured Americans can comparison shop and sign up for insurance using an on-line marketplace.
The new legislation expands benefits and offers coverage to those with pre-existing conditions. While some are expected to pay less for premiums, others say they're going to have to pay quite a bit more.
Bob Miszuk said he received a letter from his insurance company two weeks ago. He found out he'll have to pay nearly three times his current premium to insure his family starting on January 1st. "Our deductible goes up, our copay goes up, our maximum out of pocket goes up," said Miszuk who is self-employed.
Because of the new government requirements, Miszuk says his family might have to apply for government subsidies to afford health care. "If you don't know what's happening now with your insurance, you better check on the exchanges," urged Miszuk.
