WAYNE, NE (KPTM)-Tracy and Matt Krusemark are happy to have friends in windy places. They lost their Wayne, Nebraska home during Friday night's tornado that leveled many areas of the city.
They have three young daughters. They are staying with family members away from Wayne. But the but the family's long-time friend, Travis Meyer is doing the talking for them.
"They are devastated so we are heading up the clean-up effort," said Meyer.
He is doing a lot more than that. Meyer slept in his car on the damaged property overnight to protect the belongings that couldn't be seen because of darkness.
"There were a lot of people looking. There was lots of traffic, but that's what friends to for each other," said Meyer. "We found Christmas cards and money in the bean field. Lots of other community members helped out. In a small town you don't ask who or why, you just step up and do it."
The American Red Cross reports the Krusemark's home is one of eight in Wayne that was completely devastated. They report 12 business were completely destroyed.
