LINCOLN, Nebraska (KPTM)- A 16-year-old high school student stabbed another in the face during school at Lincoln Pius X, according to police.
Police said that 16-year-old Sarah Piccolo stabbed her fellow student around 9:45 Monday morning.
Pius went into lock down for about an hour, according to students. Lincoln Police department officials said that Piccolo fled the school shortly after the stabbing.
Police are still searching for her.
Piccolo has brown hair, is about 5'5 and weighs 105 pounds, according to police.
Police believe she may be driving a 1992 Gray Buick Park Avenue, with Nebraska license plates ‘TJM577.'
"To hear this it was very shocking," said Pius High school senior, Katie Kirby.
Police haven't said why they believe Piccolo may have stabbed her fellow student, but that they found a knife and a hammer in the bathroom.
"It was a very serious atmosphere because everyone was trying to take in what had happened," said Anna Arndt, a senior at Pius.
The 17-year-old who was stabbed is recovering from surgery, according to students.
