OMAHA(KPTM)- After serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom, two veterans found it tough to forget what they went through. So they decided to walk from Milwaukee to Los Angeles to promote P.T.S.D. Awareness. Today the two men made their way through Omaha.
Anthony Anderson and Tom Voss are more than five hundred miles into their journey and they've already gone through a few pairs of shoes.
For both men, the topic is personal. "My platoon sergeant and my squad leader were both killed in action. I was 21 years old when that happened," said Voss of his experience as a soldier serving in Iraq.
Voss wants to emphasize that P.T.S.D. can result from many different things and often manifests itself in different ways. "Someone might have been traumatized by being ripped away from their family and going into a war zone where another person can be traumatized by being hit by roadside bombs and just seeing the horrors of war," said Voss.
Both men say they have been touched by the kindness extended to them along the way, with many fellow veterans reaching out through Facebook to offer them a meal or a place to sleep.
The duo has a GPS tracking device with them, to show followers their journey. They're also blogging about their mission on a designated facebook page.
