OMAHA (KPTM) - Repairing the image of North Omaha starts with volunteerism for one local church.
"We want to put the 'neighbor' back into the 'hood,'" said Eric Carpenter, a missions coordinator for Christ Community Church.
Wednesday's project to spruce up a home near 39th and Blondo Streets began with yard work and interior renovations. The goal was to put into motion change for not just the house, but also the community.
"We want to transform this area," said Carpenter. "We want to revitalize the block."
Carpenter, who gave up his Wednesday night to be a part of that revitalization, called his work a rewarding experience.
"It's awesome to be a part of something like this."
Members of the church don't plan to stop either, until they've touched the lives of as many people as they can.
"We want to make them feel like they're cared about and loved," said Jennifer Anson.
Organizers plan to do more volunteer work on Saturday. By the end of the year, they hope to make an impact on 33 neighborhoods.
