COUNCIL BLUFFS(KPTM)- A fatal crash had I-29 shut down in both directions this afternoon for about twenty minutes. Traffic was slowed down for hours, as police looked into the single-vehicle rollover accident that killed 33 year-old Miki Lee Bailey of Council Bluffs.
Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash that took place near mile marker 44 at about 2:15 this afternoon. According to I.S.P., Bailey was traveling northbound on I-29 when she rolled her white 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee into the median.
Police say Bailey had to be extricated from the Jeep before she was transported by Lifenet to UNMC, where she later died.
As police investigated the crash, a second collision slowed down traffic around 3:45 P.M. when a gray sedan rear-ended a white four-door just feet from the scene of the fatal crash. No serious injuries were reported as a result of the second collision.
Both accidents are still under investigation.
