OMAHA(KPTM)-Nancy Foral has worked at Essential Pregnancy Services for 13 years and during that time has helped thousands of pregnant women in need with everything from medical check-ups to earning their G.E.D.'s. In that time, Foral says this is the first time she's had to report a theft.
Foral went to police after an Air Conditioning unit was stolen from outside of the group's center near 62nd and Maple streets. She says the unit will cost more than four thousand dollars to replace, with a two thousand dollar deductible coming from the organization's budget.
"Eighty one percent of our clients live at the poverty line or below," said Foral who added that the money used to pay the deductible could have gone to buying diapers or baby formula for new mothers. "It's very difficult for them to provide for a child and even if they work full or part time, they're still living at below poverty," added Foral.
Foral adds that the organization is out another five hundred dollars that was used to put a tracking device on the remaining unit, something she says could go to a mother or newborn in need.
Essential Pregnancy Services is funded mainly by grants and private donations.
