COUNCIL BLUFFS (KPTM) - The Council Bluffs Police Department says a woman was murdered in her own home, and her husband will face charges.
Police say officers were called to 34th and Avenue B shortly after 8am for a disturbance and shots fired.
They found 44-year-old Millisa Cox in the front yard. She was taken to a Council Bluffs hospital, where she was declared dead.
Police surrounded the home. A negotiator and the SWAT team was called in.
When they tried to make contact, they noticed a man lying on the floor in the house.
Police went inside and found 55-year-old Darwin Cox with a slight gunshot wound to the chin.
Cox was taken to an Omaha hospital. Police say his wound is superficial.
Police say they believe Darwin Cox shot Millisa Cox to death. He faces a murder charge.
FOX 42 found several court records on Dewey Cox in Pottawattamie County. Cox has been charged with domestic assault on more than one occasion, including last September. In that case, a weapon was involved.
Court records show Cox failed to show up for an arraignment in that case last week.
Another domestic abuse charge and an assault charge were dropped in 2005 when victims did not testify or appear in court.
We will have more on this story tonight on the News at Nine.
