OMAHA (kptm) - It was a magical night for dozens of Bellevue children who had the chance to go on a free shopping spree.  Fox 42 News was there as 100 kids picked out their favorite toys for the 2013 Holiday Heroes event.

People living in the area as well as several local businesses joined together to make Monday night magical.

Donors said its all about making Christmas special for the children less fortunate this holiday season.

They made their lists and they're checking them twice.  These Bellevue kids are crossing items off their Christmas wish lists.  "A mustache, a cop car and a headlight and a whoopee cushion and then binoculars and that's all…"

But it's not Santa that knows who's naughty and nice.  "dinosaurs…should we go find some dinosaurs?"

These kids are shopping with some of Bellevue's finest, officers from the Bellevue police department and firefighters from the Bellevue fire department.  "It's always nice cause of course they're excited and it's always nice to see them happy and having a good time," Bellevue police chief, Mark Elbert said.

"How much are the cop cars?  The cop cars?  Six dollars."

"It's always good because sometimes every once in a while they'll actually pull you aside and want to get something for mom or dad, so it's pretty cool."

"They got pj's for my brother!"

So, you better watch out, "Minecraft!"

You better not cry, "whoa what's that?"

Because these parents will tell you why, "it makes her feel special and it's not always based on her brother so she gets a chance to do something for herself instead of always for her brother," mother Krystal Hausherr said.

Men and women from the Bellevue fire and police departments shopped with the kids Monday night, but it wasn't all fun and games.  The kids also got to pick out shoes and clothing.

While tonight's event was with the Bellevue police department, the Omaha police department is also planning their 12th annual "Shop With A Cop" event.

It's set for Tuesday evening and kids who are living at a local homeless shelter will be taken on a personal shopping trip with an officer.
