LAVISTA(KPTM)-Looking for that perfect present? Don't leave your loved ones out in the cold. When it comes to holiday gifts, some are going for the practical option.
Adam Ostdiek doesn't just sell survival supplies, he knows first hand how important it is to prepare for emergencies. "Last winter we lost power, the house got down to thirty degrees inside, so it's important to have those backup plans like heaters to keep the house warm," said Ostdiek who adds that living in Nebraska means being ready for any kind of weather. "Especially conditions like today with the black ice, the climate we live in things can change real quick and things can get bad real quick," he said.
Jennifer DeFalco spent her Sunday shopping at the LaVista Cabela's where Ostdiek works. DeFalco says buying cold weather gear as holiday gifts a two-for-one deal. "It's a fantastic deal, it's a good sale, and we know it's going to keep her warm," said DeFalco of the burgundy pajamas she'll be giving her daughter for Christmas.
Ostdiek says shoppers are in the market for everything from self-heating jackets and gloves to sleeping bags the size of your hand. Even self-heating meals are on the shopping list. No matter what your budget, says Ostdiek, there are options to help keep your friends and family warm and safe. At Cabela's a set of jumper cables starts at just five bucks, and Windshield Wiper Fluid - a popular item this time of year goes for just a few dollars.
