OMAHA (KPTM)- The holidays can be a tough time for families that may have lost a loved one, especially for families of fallen military members
The "Snowball" express is a charity that gives military families an all expense paid trip to Dallas-Fort Worth where they will have an experience of a lifetime. This year, 1,800 spouses and children of fallen heroes are making the trip.
"It is our reality-daddy's not here-it's just important that we remember that and focus on that sacrifice a little bit," said Jessica Blake.
Blake and her two kids, Tommy and Lily, are heading on the ‘Snowball Express' for the eighth year in a row. Blake's husband was a navy pilot who died in 2005.
Blake said it's great to share the experience being surrounded by other families who have lost military members. "It's not a family we wanted to be apart of-but it's a really great event and it just does our hearts good," said Blake.
"It's really important to me because it's a humbling experience. I think it's something everyone in uniform never wants to face," said Captain Ben Burdette, who is in the air force.
