OMAHA (KPTM) - The mad holiday rush is on and the mail is off and running.

There's no rest for the weary inside the U.S. Post Office these days.  About 800 staffers are now working around the clock loading and sorting for the Christmas season.

"When you have a package you should mail it," said Mark Stickrod, senior manager.  "Don't wait two or three days."

That's because deadlines to get gifts to your loved ones are rapidly approaching and the post office is getting swamped ahead of its busiest day of the year Monday.

"Make sure when you do send something it has the right zip code and there's postage on it," recommended Stickrod.

The three biggest deadlines are as follows:  First Class mail is due by December 20th, Priority Mail is due by December 21st and Priority Mail Express is due by December 23rd.

The post office told FOX 42 News Friday it's brought on an extra 64 workers to help with the holiday rush.
