COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (KPTM) – Heather Hansen didn't recognize the home in Council Bluffs she walked through as hers. It was broken into on Wednesday while she was at work.

Her iPod speakers, DVD player, television cables and a television were all stolen. To make the theft worse, some of her daughter's toys and Christmas presents were stolen.

"She had a Wii," Hansen said.

The theft could not have come at a more inconvenient time Hansen said. She recently found out her temporary job is ending and she has one more semester of school left before she can receive her degree.

The single mother said she bought her Christmas presents early to avoid spending a lot of money.

"I get loans and grants and that for her so I make sure you know we're covered for everything we need and they just took it all away from me."

The whole incident, she said, still has her shaken.

"I feel like I'm in a safe area, but now it's like it scares me to even be alone with her—not knowing if they're going to come back maybe I don't know."

Hansen said when she saves up enough money she is going to change the locks on her doors and install a security system.

The Council Bluffs Police Department is investigating this burglary. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (712) 328-7867.
