OMAHA(KPTM)- Holiday shoppers are expected to spend six percent less this year on gifts. That's according to the National Retail Federation. Many of those shoppers are looking to get the best deal for their money. One way to do that is by shopping resale.
How much are you planning on spending on holiday gifts this year? Nationally, the average shopper will spend about eight hundred bucks, according to the organization. But not everyone will be spending that much.
If you're short on cash this season, consignment shops can get you good deals. You can even make some cash if you're willing to sell items you no longer use or wear.
Dawaune Hayes of Scout Dry Goods and Trade, a resale shop in Dundee, says customers can get unique finds at cheap prices, if they're willing to buy something pre-owned. "Pre-loved" is the term Hayes prefers to use to describe the items brought into the store he manages.
Even if you're shopping for your own holiday outfit, Hayes says at his shop, you can usually find something for under thirty bucks. On Sundays some shoes and some other items cost just a dollar, a deal he says is tough for even the most budget conscious customer to pass up. "Everybody's been looking to get their Christmas shopping done without breaking the bank," said Hayes.
