Gretna Powerball Jackpot Winners Announce Plans for $61.45 Million Dollar WIn

Posted: Updated:

LINCOLN(KPTM)-Last week a Gretna couple bought a winning Powerball ticket which earned them tens of millions. Today the family talked to the media about the big win.

On Tuesday afternoon,  David and Erica Harrig of Gretna were given a ceremonial check for 61.45 million dollars by Nebraska's Governor. So how did they win the jackpot? David Harrig says by playing numbers he's played before, based on family birthdays. On December 11th, that strategy netted the family half of a $122 million dollar jackpot.

The Harrigs are still trying to decide what to do with their windfall. "I'm buying my dream car. My wife's going to get her dream house and then we're going to live our lives and that's about it," said David Harrig who adds that he and his wife plan to budget the cash responsibly.

Although the two quit their jobs last week, they say managing their big win has been time consuming and all of the media attention feels like a whole new career. But the couple says they won't let all of the attention go to their heads. "It's not going to change us, I'm going to be me. I'm going to have the same friends. It's going to be fun. That's what today was," said Harrig.
