Retailers Gear Up for Holiday Return Rush

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA (KPTM)- Thousands packed Omaha area malls Thursday in one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

"There are a lot of returns for those shirts that weren't quite big enough," said Jim Sadler, the Sr. General manager at Westroads Mall.

Sadler said retailers had a busy Holiday season, and it isn't over yet.

"A lot of returns, a lot of new sales that start up today-so they don't waste any time," said Alvin Jankowski, a manger at Suncoast Motion Picture Company.

Returns cost retailers $3.4 billion dollars during the holiday season, according to the National Retail Federation.

Sadler said when you are returning your gifts, make sure to have the receipts with you. "You want to have as much information as you can," said Sadler.

Some retailers are having customers show a state issued ID to stop return fraud.

When looking at your gift receipt, make sure to read the fine print for the exact return window and see if there is an extension for holiday gifts.

Also, be on the lookout for ‘restocking' fees and keep in mind that some items can't be returned once you've opened them, such as movies and video games.
