OMAHA (KPTM) - An abandoned special needs dog with vision problems and recovering from malnourishment is in the hands of a new owner thanks to a local rescue organization.
FOX 42 News was there Friday afternoon as Hooves and Paws delivered an 11-year-old Terrier named Maude to the Smidt household out in West Omaha.
"I just fell in love with her," said Nancy Smidt, Maude's new owner.
For Maude, living with Smidt really is a dream come true. Earlier this month she was in a Kansas City animal shelter suffering from severe hunger and could barely walk. Now, she's in the care of a much more loving household.
"This is the greatest gift someone could give me right now," said Smidt. "I needed another companion."
Maude could use another companion, too; a friend to help her get used to her new surroundings.
"I think my other dog, Howie, will be her eyes," said Smidt. "Once he gets to know her, he will lead her around the house."
Of course, Howie can also provide that deep attraction we all need: LOVE.
"It's really great to have her here."
