OMAHA(KPTM)- New FDA rules might mean you'll be seeing more than just a price tag for items sold in vending machines. If you're a vending machine user, a list of calorie counts may be coming your way.
The F. D.A. says if just two percent of obese adults ate 100 fewer calories per week, the savings in health care would be worth the millions it would cost to provide the information on vending machines. But many of those responsible for the re-labeling say it's a cost that should be paid for by the manufacturer, not vending machine owners and operators.
The rule would require more than 5 million vending machines nationally to provide the information within a one or two year period. The F. D.A. is expected to release its final rule early next year.
