OMAHA(KPTM)- The Hermann Family usually celebrates New Year's Day. But now, the holiday is even more special to them because January 1st is also their newborn's birthday. Grayson Erik Hermann was born at 1:21 this morning at Methodist Women's Hospital and has the honor of being the first baby born in an Omaha Metro hospital in 2014.
John Hermann and Heather Robbins were planning on a January sixth birth but Grayson decided to come a little bit early. The infant was born early this morning at a weight of 7 pounds and 3 ounces, after Robbins spent more than a dozen hours in labor. "We started yesterday morning at 7 a.m., so it was the furthest thing from our minds," said Hermann of the New Year's Day delivery.
The nurses at Methodist Women's were more than ready to help deliver their first child of 2014, which also happened to be the first birth in the Omaha Metro this year. "This is like the Olympics of labor and delivery, so they're all rooting for the baby to be born in this hospital, the New Year's Baby," said Robbins.
Two year-old sister Holland, was also on hand to hold her brother for the first time today. Grayson isn't the only child in the Hermann family born on the first of a month. Holland celebrates her birthday on August 1st.
