OMAHA (KPTM) - The snowfall on New Year's Day wasn't anywhere near a record, but what we did get was big enough to make it a busy Thursday for insurance companies metrowide.
"The speeds don't decrease near enough," said insurance agent Grant Mussman.
Agents like Mussman saw an increase in calls today. From people reporting an accident to inquiries about coverage plans, the information provided by those on the other line wasn't always what was needed.
"People will exchange color of vehicle and they'll exchange the VIN number. All of those are helpful, but what you absolutely need is the name of the company and the policy number," said Mussman.
Those with cleaner driving records may receive accident forgiveness, but others will see their premiums go up.
"It should be expected that there will be some fluctuation over time."
And if you're forced to pay out-of-pocket because you didn't get that crucial insurance information, Mussman says you can expect your potential costs to be even higher.
