BELLEVUE (KPTM) - Police are on the hunt for the person or persons responsible for a pair of thefts at Tobacco Hut locations in the metro.

The first one happened a few hours into New Year's Day as a robbery at the 41st and Harrison store in Bellevue.  Surveillance video showed a man's arm reaching into a drive-thru window to grab cartons of cigarettes.

"Sometimes these crimes are crimes of opportunity," said Chuck Clark, a Bellevue police captain.  "They're impulsive crimes, too."

Investigators in Omaha are also dealing with a similar crime, but this time it was an all-out robbery.  It happened at the Tobacco Hut store at 48th and Center Streets today with surveillance video showing a man walking up to the counter and demanding money.

"Thieves just don't care," said Clark.  "Especially around the holidays or just after, businesses become a target."

In light of the thefts, Clark urges any business that doesn't already have them to set up cameras, alarms and neighborhood watch groups.

If you have a tip that could lead to an arrest, you're urged to call police or Crimestoppers.  You can remain anonymous.
