COUNCIL BLUFFS (KPTM) - Wind speeds of close to 50 miles per hour in Council Bluffs are to blame for a rollover accident.
It happened early Tuesday afternoon along Interstate 80. Police say the driver was not seriously hurt, but the crash did back up traffic for a while as crews worked to get the semi upright.
Later in the day, FOX 42 News rode along with a truck driver to get a sense of how dangerous it can be out on the roads when the gusts pick up. We're told it doesn't take long for Mother Nature to wreak havoc on trucks big or small.
"If you've got some head wind that won't bother you quite as bad, but the wind will really catch you straight from the sides," said Brian Ebke, a driving instructor for JTL.
Experienced truck drivers tell us the best thing you can do if wind speeds start to get too high is to pull over and wait for Mother Nature to settle down, whether you're a truck driver or not.
