OMAHA (KPTM) - A nearly 20-year old tradition at Champions Run is taking a break this year.  The PGA Tour confirmed Friday the Cox Classic won't happen in Omaha as it restructures the tournament and plans for the future.

"It's unfortunate.  I wish it would have worked out differently than it has," said Bob Horgan, a managing general partner for the golf course.

Horgan told FOX 42 News he had asked the PGA to implement a rotation schedule.  He wants other locations to host the tournament so his club can have something breathing room.

"After 18 years in the heat of the Summer, which you have a very short season here, isn't there something they can do to relieve us of some of this burden?"

Horgan said some of the members at Champions Run also favored taking a break.  With narrow streets and parking issues, it was becoming a hassle for people.

"We always like to think we listen very carefully to our membership."

For others, losing the Cox Classic is like losing something valuable.

"It feels like somebody's missing out of your life," said Curtis Tate, an avid golfer.

Horgan doesn't believe, however, the disbelief felt by some will last for too long.  He expects the tournament to return to Omaha once the rough patches are ironed out.

"If two other courses would participate in that burden I believe the tournament could be here indefinitely," said Horgan.

Earlier Friday, the PGA released a statement on these new developments.  It read in part:

"We are taking a one-year hiatus with respect to Omaha, which gives us ample time to restructure the tournament and ensure we have all the elements in place to continue what is a very successful community-based event in 2015."
