OMAHA (KPTM) - We're learning more about one of two people killed in a plant explosion Monday in the south central part of town.

The childhood friends of Keith Everett, 53, gathered Tuesday afternoon to talk about their lost loved one and what he meant to them.

"He was really laid back and he had this really deep laugh," recalled Catherine Nared.

Everett was a 1979 graduate of Omaha Tech High School.  He was also a football player and competitive athlete.

"I was just in shock when I heard the news," said Nared.

"When reality set in it was just hard to believe," said Terrence Mackey, another childhood friend.  "It's heart wrenching."

Heart wrenching because there are more questions than answers.

"We should be able to go to work and not have to worry about our safety and just be able to do our jobs, so I really hope they do a fine investigation," said Nared.

Something that could take several months, so in the meantime Everett's friends will come together and share memories to help them heal after this tragedy.

"He definitely will be missed," said Nared.
