International Nutrition Laying Off 25 Workers While Plant Rebuilds

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA (KPTM)- The president of International Nutrition said the company plans on laying off 25 production employees.

The announcement comes about two weeks after a building collapse at the 77th and I location. Two people were killed in the collapse and several others were injures.

“As a result of the recent accident, we have lost our production facility and our ability to produce product. That is forcing us to outsource production elsewhere," President Steve Silver said.

Silver said it will be months before the structure can be torn down and rebuilt. The company said it will provide severance to all of the workers that will be affected.

The Nebraska Department of Labor is helping employees apply for unemployment benefits.

Silver said the company will retain some employees by outsourcing production until the comapny can handle customer orders.

Silver said it the company plans to rehire available employees when the plant is rebuilt

OSHA is investigating the cause of the collapse.

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families of employees who died in the accident, and with those employees recovering from injuries. I also would like to express my thanks to all employees for their ongoing support during this difficult time," Silver said.
