OMAHA (KPTM)- "Roofs this time of the year are treacherous, you should stay off them now and when the snow is falling," said Doug Prokop, Owner, The House Doctor.
The piece of advice that tops his list, "Safety, safety, safety," said Prokop.
With that established his says gaps that are left outside homes from heating and air conditioning units should be filled.
"Use plumber's putty. That will seal it up the best. You can't use caulk this time of the year, it won't work in these temperatures," said Prokop.
He says plenty of ice melt should be used on sidewalks, steps and driveways.
He also says foamy insulation should be used around all pipes in the home.
