Airport Maintenance Crews Work Around The Clock In Storm

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA (KPTM)- Airport maintenance crews are expected to work around the clock clearing runways and taxi areas.

"We will run five broom trucks, about six plows, and depending on the amount of snow we will determine how many snow blowers we will use," said Tom Swanek, Airport Maintenance Manager.

"The brushes work great, we want to get any contaminants, like snow or ice off the runways and the brushes peel that snow right off," said Tim Schmitt, Airport Operations Manager.

Two different radar systems will monitor snowfall and the type of precipitation that will fall to better plan how to remove it.

Crews will monitor the temperature of the pavement on the runway and test them to see how safe the runways will be for takeoffs and landings.
